Introduction

The CLRA offers two Learn-to-row programs; high school, and adult. Each level includes a multiple day course designed to give you an introduction to the sport of rowing in a safe and fun environment. Now entering its fifth season, the CLRA has perfected the program. Over 150 new participants completed a learn to row course in the first four years. We hope to make 2010 even better!

High School - Saturday March 20 from 9:00-11:00 am

Every year the Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association hosts a Learn-to-Row program for students in grades 8-12. This event gives you the opportunity to get in a boat and join thousands of new rowers around the country learning about the sport of crew.

This spring we will hold the program at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena on Saturday March 20 at 9:00 am. This two hour program will include topics such as terms and safety, introductory technique on the indoor rowing machines and a short fitness test. Depending on the weather, we will move outside the following week where you will learn first how to handle an oar from out dock and then in a rowing shell.

Come and give rowing a try. We need you to come and make next year a success!

Students are not required to preregister but are strongly encouraged to attend the parents and rowers meeting at 8:00pm on Wednesday March 17, at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena.

National Learn to Row Day - Saturday June 5, 2010

National Learn to Row Day is an annual event held by the CLRA and sponsored by US Rowing. The program is open to anyone interested in learning more about the sport.

This summer, for the second time, National Learn to Row Day will include two follow-up sessions; Tuesday June 8, and Friday June 11, at 6:00pm. There is no additional cost for these sessions and should you choose to take advantage of them, they will help build your knowledge of rowing and your skill on the water.

The additional instruction is designed to help transition potential members into the club with more confidence in their rowing ability. The sessions were created based on feedback from previous classes so we hope all Learn to Row participants will us for this opportunity!

Summer Learn to Row Days - July 10 & August 14, 2010

Summer Learn to row days are designed to give potential rowers a chance to experience being part of a crew in a less formal setting than in our other programs. Held at 9:00 am on a Saturday morning, the course will teach you everything you need to know to join us on the water in a fun and relaxed way.

General Info

All Learn-to-Row events are geared toward inexperienced rowers so there is no reason to feel intimidated if you have never been in a boat before.   The cost to participate is $10 per student or $20 per adult. The course is free to CLRA members and coxswains and all entry fees will be credited to your yearly membership dues if you decide to join later.

Learn-to-Row Day is your opportunity to spend some time on one of our regions most beautiful natural assets, learn an exciting new sport, and meet lots of other rowing enthusiasts.  To sign up, click the link at the top or call coach Steve Odrzywolski at 716-913-2409
