Introduction
The CLRA offers two levels of Learn-to-row programing; high school, and adult. Each level includes a multiple day course designed to give you an introduction to the sport of rowing in a safe and fun environment. Now entering its sixth season, the CLRA has perfected the program. Over 200 new participants completed a learn to row course in the first five years. We hope to make 2012 even better!
High School - Saturday March 03 from 9:00am-11:00am
Every year the Chautauqua Lake Rowing Association hosts a Learn-to-Row program for students in grades 8-12. This event is geared toward students ready to commit to the CLRA's competitive high school program.
This spring we will hold the program at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena on Saturday March 03 at 9:00 am. The two hour program will include topics such as terms and safety, introductory technique on the indoor rowing machines and a short fitness test. Depending on the weather, we will move outside the following week where you will learn first how to handle an oar from our dock and then in a rowing shell.
Come and give rowing a try. We need you to come and make next year a success!
Students are not required to pre-register but are strongly encouraged to attend the parents and rowers meeting at 8:00pm on Wednesday February 29, at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena.

Adult Learn to Row Program
Adult Learn-to-Row programs are designed to help transition potential members into the club with more confidence in their rowing ability. The programs are open to anyone over the age of 15 interested in learning more about the sport.
Registration on Saturday will begin at 8:30am with instruction beginning promptly at 9:00. The schedule will include a 2 hour "dry-land" training session and a 1 hour "on the water experience". While on land, we will cover rowing terms and safety, introductory technique on indoor rowing machines, and dock box instruction. Then it will be time to take to the water in one of the CLRA's beautiful rowing shells.
The following week; Monday through Friday, the program will continue each night at 6:00pm. At the end of the 6 day course, you will know basic rowing terms and safety, be able to use a rowing ergometer correctly, as well as comfortably row in a racing shell on the Chadakoin river and Chautauqua Lake. This week long program was created based on feedback from previous classes so we hope you will all join us for this opportunity!
